Astrology has been an integral part of Indian culture for centuries. It is a system that helps us understand the relationship between the celestial bodies and our lives. One such system that has been gaining popularity in recent times is Vishti Karana.

Vishti Karana is a term used in Vedic astrology to describe an inauspicious period during which no auspicious activities should be undertaken. The term Vishti Karana is derived from two Sanskrit words, ‘Vishti’ meaning obstacle or hindrance, and ‘Karana’ meaning a half-day.

There are a total of eleven Karanas in Vedic astrology. These Karanas are classified into two types – Shubha (auspicious) and Ashubha (inauspicious). Vishti Karana falls under the Ashubha category and is considered to be one of the most inauspicious Karanas.

According to Hindu mythology, Vishti Karana is believed to be the time when the demon Rahu swallows the moon, causing an eclipse. It is said that during this time, the energies of the universe are disturbed, causing negative vibrations that can affect our lives in different ways.

During Vishti Karana, it is not recommended to start a new venture, get married, or even perform a religious ceremony. People are advised to avoid traveling, signing contracts, or making any major decisions during this time. It is believed that any activity commenced during Vishti Karana will result in failure or negative outcomes.

Vishti Karana occurs twice a month when the moon is in its waning phase. It lasts for approximately six hours and occurs when the distance between the moon and sun is exactly 180 degrees. The first half of Vishti Karana occurs when the moon is in its last quarter, while the second half occurs when the moon is in its new phase.

However, not everyone believes in the negative effects of Vishti Karana. Some astrologers believe that if an activity is initiated during Vishti Karana and completed during a Shubha Karana, the outcome can be positive. This is based on the belief that the negative energies of Vishti Karana are neutralized by the positive energies of the Shubha Karana.

In conclusion, Vishti Karana is the time when the universe is believed to be filled with negative energies, and it is not considered auspicious for any activity. It is essential to understand the significance of Vishti Karana and avoid initiating new projects or making significant decisions during this time. However, one can always consult an experienced astrologer for personalized advice on how to navigate this period.
